Massport is unveiling plans to improve Hanscom's 5/23 runway which they say is
required by the FAA for safety reasons. Critics argue that it paves the way
for larger airplanes and jets to use the runway.

additional runways at Logan, counsel for the city of Boston argued that
Hanscom has "essentially the same air side facilities" as New York's

Minuteman:
Massport is postponing indefinitely more than $1.5 million worth of
improvements to the Civil Air Terminal and parking area at Hanscom Field, due
to budget cuts caused by lagging business at Boston's Logan International
Airport.

of capital programs to delay $280 million in building projects over the next
18 months, including "most work at Hanscom Field in Bedford."

Sept 11 terrorist attacks, Hanscom Air Force Base is accelerating plans to add
an 8 foot high barbed wire fence around the base.

Mass Highway Department is planning to build a pedestrian underpass under
Hanscom Drive to provide a safer path between historical sites.
Massport has discussed
proposals to lengthen runway 5 and relocate Virginia Road.. The claim is
that this is needed to provide a safety zone. In a
meeting on January 16 , Massport recommended regrading a safety zone
but not moving Virginia Road.
