US AIRWAYS DECIDES NOT TO SERVE HANSCOM FIELD

ARLINGTON, Va.,  June 6, 2001 -- US Airways said today that it has decided
not to serve Hanscom Field in Bedford, Mass., at this time. The company said
community concern over new flights at Hanscom motivated its decision.

"Given the degree of community concern over increased flying at Hanscom
Field, it would be inappropriate to incur the costs and spend the time
necessary to develop the new service at this time. While we heard from many
in the business community that the new service would be welcomed, we also
heard from a large number of organizations and individuals who are concerned
about new flying at Hanscom," the company said in a statement.

"These issues are best addressed at the local level and we trust that in
time both the community and the Massachusetts Port Authority will reach an
appropriate resolution. We wish them well in their efforts."

In mid-May, US Airways announced that US Airways Express carrier Allegheny
Airlines would begin operating three daily flights between Hanscom Field and
Philadelphia beginning in mid-August with a fourth flight being added on
this route in September. Also in September, the company said US Airways
Express would begin three daily flights to New York's La Guardia Airport.

The flights would have been flown using 37-seat DeHavilland Dash-8 twin
turboprop aircraft.
