Re: FAA Draft Five Year Strategic Plan, aka
"Flight Plan 2004-2008"
Comment Deadline: August 5
Persons or organizations wishing to request Extension of Time for Comment (and
they should), and/or
to be placed on the FAA's "stakeholder" Notice list, regarding its
Draft FAA "Five Year Strategic Plan",
are advised to immediately notify:
Sharon Pinkerton, Assistant Administrator for Aviation
Policy and the Environment
Federal Aviation Administration
800 Independence Ave., S.W.
Washington, DC 20591
Requests are best e-mailed to her at
sharon.pinkerton@faa.gov
(This routing is on basis on my phone conversation earlier today with Nan
Shellabarger, Deputy Director
of the "Aviation Policy" branch of the FAA.)
The national Sierra Club has today asked for a 90-day extension of the Public
Comment Period. Said
extension is to begin upon receipt of approval from the FAA.
The document in question is in support of FAA programs, and budget allocations beginning October 1,2004, through Sept. 30, 2008.
It may be found on the Web at http://www1.faa.gov/apo/strategicplan.
It appears to have been suddenly released (on July 9) without prior
consultation or notice to environmental
"stakeholders", or for that matter, to many affected communities.
Therefore, extra time will be needed,
(especially in view of the vacation season) to permit the proper national
environmental and park support organizations, and "affected community"
review.
They will all need to be noticed, and then to develop and submit comments.
The "anemic quality" of the document's environmental
representations is striking. They are all tied to,
and clearly subordinate to, CAPACITY AND DEMAND.
