Letter: Stanley opposed to Crosspoint contract

I am writing in response to Massport's intent to sign a contract this
week with Crosspoint Aviation Services to significantly expand facilities
and activities at Hanscom Field. As a state representative of Lexington, I
am opposed to this proposal and I have requested the governor's assistance
in urging MEPA to perform a full-scale environmental impact study prior to
expansion.

Since being redistricted into the town of Lexington in 2001, I have
fought commercial expansion at Hanscom Field. My constituents are deeply
concerned about the increase in aviation traffic, pollution and noise over
Lexington during the last several years. Without further environmental study
by MEPA, Massport's plan would only further expand the noise, ground traffic
and air pollution throughout the region

Bedford, Concord, Lincoln, Lexington and surrounding areas already
share more than a fair share of the burden of contributing to the economic
well-being of the Boston and New England region by hosting New England's
largest general aviation airport and second busiest airport. I ask that
Massport thoroughly examine the environmental and historical repercussions
that increased use and expansion of Hanscom would bring.

I am also concerned about how this issue will affect the fate of
Hanscom Air Force Base and our ongoing efforts to secure the base's future
through the BRAC process. I have fought the closure of the Hanscom Air Force
Base because it heavily supports the local economy and provides jobs. While
there is opposition to the expansion of Hanscom Field, there is overwhelming
local support to keep Hanscom Air Force Base open.

I have requested the governor's assistance in requiring Massport to
develop a long-term regional transportation plan and economic development
plan to better define the long-term role of Hanscom Field. I have also
requested the governor's assistance in requiring MEPA to complete a study
before the Crosspoint project can proceed.
