Letter: ShhAir threatens airport safety

We've gotten used to the hypocrisy of ShhAir. Some people buy homes near the airport and pretend surprise at the noise and traffic. They invoke reverence for nearby historical sites so they won't seem so selfish. Many who use the airport and value its economic impact regard ShhAir as a harmless hobby for those with not quite enough to do.

But now ShhAir is threatening our safety. Years ago trees were cut in Bedford so planes could safely arrive and depart to the northeast. The trees have grown back -- as they tend to do. They need to be cut again. This is a serious safety issue affecting thousands of pilots and passengers.

The approval process was proceeding but ShhAir has appealed to the state. The ensuing delay is a dangerous hazard to aviation. We need to hear the sound of chainsaws and chippers in Bedford . . . soon.
