Shuttle America pilot aborts flight
01/15/02

EWING -- A Shuttle America plane returned to Trenton Mercer Airport and made a safe landing yesterday after its pilot decided the plane was not functioning correctly, a county official said.

Robin Williams, spokeswoman for Mercer County Executive Robert D. Prunetti, said the plane took off around 10:05 a.m. for a schedule trip to Boston, but the flight was aborted as a precaution after the pilot determined the aircraft was "not handling properly."

The plane circled back to Trenton Mercer Airport and made a safe landing, Williams said. She said the plane was in the air for only about 10 minutes.

Williams said the plane will be inspected by Shuttle America mechanics and county officials. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will also likely take part in the inspection, she said.

There were no injuries to any of the 24 passengers and three crew members aboard, Williams added. The passengers continued their journey to Boston on a later Shuttle America flight, according to Justin Edwards, airport manager.
