Letter: Missing the point on Hanscom

Massport's chief executive officer, Craig Coy, implicitly justifies expanding Hanscom Field by noting that the surrounding towns are home to many high-tech companies (''Past and future at Hanscom,'' Letters, Oct 22).

He conveniently ignores an important fact: High-tech companies do not take off and wake up people at 5:30 in the morning; jets do. It is a good strategy for Ken Burns and the people who live around Hanscom Field to cloak themselves in ''the need to preserve historic landscapes'' (op ed, Oct. 17), but this issue is first and foremost one of quality of life -- something Boston residents are losing every day thanks to Massport.
