Letter: Support HATS petition for Crosspoint environmental review

ShhAir was deeply dismayed by the recent decision by Secretary Stephen
Pritchard of the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs to deny our
request for a full environmental review of the huge new Crosspoint jet
facility at Hanscom Field.

Now new information has come to light that Crosspoint's project
includes the siting of a jet fuel farm near the end of a runway and directly
on top of an aquifer that is a drinking water resource for the town of
Bedford. Any installation of this size, with its enormous potential for
contamination of the water supply, demands comprehensive environmental
review.

The four towns surrounding Hanscom Field, Bedford, Concord, Lexington
and Lincoln, have filed an emergency petition for environmental review under
the fail-safe provision of the MEPA regulations. If there is no review of
this project, it will be an outrageous failure of environmental protection
by the commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Go to the ShhAir Web site, www.shhair.org, to send an instant fax to
Gov. Mitt Romney asking him to fully support the fail-safe petition filed by
the towns and to insist on a full environmental review of the Crosspoint jet
facility proposal.
