Letter: Crosspoint more harm than good

To the editor:

Massport proposes to permit Crosspoint Aviation Services to increase the
total corporate jet hanger space at Hanscom Field by 50 percent, thereby
similarly increasing the number of jet flights (and road traffic). The
following question needs to be answered: Does the good outweigh the bad?
Here's the equation to be considered: These "corporate" jets will be used
for the convenience of a relatively few wealthy individuals and businesses,
whereas their flights will repeatedly annoy and disrupt the lives of all the
many people on the ground below. The consequent increase in noise pollution
will negatively impact the health (both physical and mental) of local
residents, resulting in increased stress levels due to fatigue (from sleep
disruption) and annoyance. So, do the total beneficial effects outweigh the
total detrimental effects? I don't think so. This project appears to be
fueled by corporate greed. As usual, Massport's callous and arrogant
disregard for the welfare of people living near the airport plays a major
role.
