STATEMENT FROM MASSPORT CEO CRAIG P. COY ON FEDEX EXPRESS INTEREST IN RETURNING TO HANSCOM FIELD

"One of the great Americcan business success stories may soon land at Hanscom Field again, reinforcing the commitment that the Commonwealth has made in local economic development. FedEx Express [sic] is interested in operating one roundtrip flight five days a week fromHascom Field to meet the needs of the region's businesses and the growing demand for their renowned on-time service from nearby companies. Being closer to their consumers will permit FedEx Express to continue to support the economy.

"Massport will work to help FedEx Express establish a regional presence that serves customers while minimizing enviromental impacts. In comprehensive reports filed with state environmental oficials, Massport has conducted extensive analysis that shows limited cargo operations from Hanscom Field would not significantly alter the impacts of the more than 60-year old facility.

"In today's economic times, this move is a tremendous endorsement for the vitality of the region."

FACTS:

FedEx Express contacted Massport on Friday, June 13th and inquired about meeting with the CEO. Massport CEO Craig P. Coy met with FedEx Express officials on Monday, June 16th to discuss their interest. FedEx Express is looking at an arrival and departure occurring before 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, using a modern Airbus A300, a full stage 3 jet.

Previously, FedEx Express operated from Hanscom Field from 1973 to1978.

Historically, activity at Hanscom Field is down from its peak in the early 1970's when it operated as a busy U.S. Air Force base with up to 300,000 flights a year. Today, the airport operates as a premier general aviation facility supporting student flights (more than 30% of total operations are student touch-and-go operations in single engine aircraft) and private aircraft owners and operators.
