FEDEX IS COMING! WHAT CAN YOU DO NOW? COME
TO A RALLY WEDNESDAY JUNE 25

WHAT: A double protest:  of FedEx's plans for Hanscom; and of the state
environmental process, which does nothing to protect us from the likes of
FedEx.

WHEN:  Wednesday, June 25th, 7:00-8:00 PM

WHERE:  In the playground area towards the front of the Bedford town
building complex, Mudge Way, Bedford.  Shortly after turning into the
entrance to the complex, you'll come to a corner where you either turn left
to get to the town hall parking lot, or go straight to get to the high
school.  At that corner there is a large grassy area, with some fenced-in
playground equipment towards the back.  We will gather in the grassy area.

CARPOOL:  Please try to carpool if at all possible, to minimize traffic
congestion and simplify parking.

BACKGROUND:  As you know, the communities put a tremendous amount of time
and effort into critiquing Massport's Draft ESPR, and 800 people attended
the MEPA hearing last November.  Despite all this, the Secretary of the
Environment ordered Massport to make only minor and unimportant changes and
additions to the Draft.  Massport has now produced a Final ESPR (those of
you who submitted written comments on the Draft have received a CD of it
from Massport).  MEPA will hold a hearing on the Final at 7:30 PM next
Wednesday, June 25th, at Bedford High School.  We will be rallying outside
the hearing to protest the fraudulent nature of an environmental report that
claims Hanscom has no impact on our communities and historic sites, when we
know it does; and to protest the uselessness of a state environmental review
process that allows Massport to get away with such a report.  In fact,
FedEx's plan to start up at Hanscom is a perfect illustration of this:
Massport is already claiming that the ESPR "proves" that up to six cargo
operations (three arrivals and three departures) per day would have no
impact, and therefore there is no need for any environmental review of
FedEx's proposal.   We will be calling on Governor Romney to take a
leadership role in bringing all the parties to the table to negotiate a
solution that will permanently protect Minute Man Park, Walden, and the many
other sites that are being overwhelmed by airport-generated noise and
traffic.
