Editorial: No slipping in the Crosspoint hangar
Thursday, August 4, 2005

Kudos to the residents who came out to the Town House Tuesday night to
the Hanscom Field Advisory Commission meeting to find out more about the
proposed 60,000 square-foot hangar that could be built off Virginia Road. It
certainly appears as if Massport was attempting to pull the wool over our
eyes, and allow Crosspoint to build hangar and office space at the former
Hangar 24. The project will certainly have an impact on the towns
surrounding Hanscom Field, but particularly those who live on Virginia Road
in Concord. The proposal shows traffic access to the new hangar from
Virginia Road - something that is not in place now - and a hangar that is
many, many times bigger than the one that is currently there. Planned
parking lots will cause more runoff of jet fuel and who knows what else.

To even suggest that an environmental review is not needed here is
ludicrous. Massport says it wants to be a good neighbor, but failing to
study the impacts of these changes on the airport's neighbors is certainly
not the way to show it.

We applaud HATS, HFAC and local activist groups that are working hard
to send the message to the governor, our state officials and state offices.
We hope this attempt by Massport to sneak the project in under our noses is
thwarted. If we as residents are going to be forced to live with the impact
of Crosspoint's new facility, the least Massport can do is give residents
the opportunity to hear results of such a study and voice their concerns.
